CORDAP (the Coral Research & Development Accelerator Platform) is a global initiative driving innovation in coral reef science to address the urgent impacts of climate change.
This month, Ocean Revive's CEO and co-founder, Dr Sebastian Schmidt-Roach, was featured in a two-part interview series on CORDAP's Instagram platform, outlining how Ocean Revive is advancing restoration through modular, scalable, and cost-effective technologies.

Coral Restoration Technology for Scalable Reef Recovery
During his time at KAUST, Dr Sebastian Schmidt-Roach was the lead inventor of the Maritechture™ tools, laying the foundation for what has become Ocean Revive's core technology platform. Our technology is engineered to address three persistent challenges:
- Scalability — With coral loss accelerating, restoration must operate at the ecosystem level, not just isolated sites.
- Speed — Efficient tools allow reef restoration projects to maximise impact.
- Cost — Technologies must be affordable and accessible to practitioners globally.
Our systems are also designed to support selective breeding and assisted evolution workflows, enabling practitioners to integrate climate resilience into their restoration strategies.
Ocean Revive's Role in the Global Coral Restoration Movement
We work at the interface of scientific discovery and on-the-ground application, helping scale efforts from local test sites to multi-hectare reefscapes. We are committed to scaling coral restoration practices in climate-stressed reef environments, partnering with governments, researchers, and NGOs worldwide, and contributing to policy frameworks that accelerate reef recovery globally.
